The two products were developed specifically for the growing population in clear retainer and aligner treatment.

Oral health product developer OrVance has launched whitening and fluoride treatment products for use with clear retainers and aligner trays. According to the company, the two products were developed with the support of orthodontic and dental practices and were designed specifically for the growing population in clear retainer and aligner treatment.

The OrVance Whitening Treatment offers 10 applications per package and will be available to orthodontic and dental practices and to consumers from major online retailers. The company says there are plans to launch with brick and mortar retailers in 2022. The OrVance Fluoride Treatment will initially be sold primarily to orthodontic and dental practices and provides three applications formulated to strengthen tooth enamel and reduce sensitivity.

“We set out to develop formulations that optimize viscosity and thixotropy to provide the most effective and convenient treatment options for the growing consumer segment in long-term smile retention or clear aligner treatment. Since these trays already provide a custom fit and are worn regularly, our treatments eliminate the need for consumers to purchase products that use a different delivery system than the trays they already own while providing improved dispersion of the product within the patient’s custom appliance,” said Michael Silver, PhD, director of R&D and technical affairs at OrVance. “We are committed to refining and extending these formulations to offer the best treatment options for this growing segment.”

According to Mike Smurr, OrVance’s vice president of professional channel development, “These products also support our goal of improving the orthodontic patient experience and to provide solutions to support longer-term compliance for smile retention. The retainer and aligner segment is highly strategic to us, as we believe this growing segment already represents more than 10% of the U.S. population—plus this consumer segment places a very high value on their oral health. This is an attractive long-term growth segment driven by not only the growth of orthodontic treatment but also the improvement of longer-term compliance to retainers after treatment.”

Eric Hannapel, DDS, MS, orthodontist and co-founder of OrVance, added, “We’re very excited to finally be launching these two products which have been in the works for a long time. Whitening solutions during and after orthodontic treatment is the perfect time to introduce a long-term whitening option since we want to provide our patients a smile they’ll be happy with the rest of their life. And during the development of the OrVance Fluoride Treatment, my colleagues strongly agreed that a more convenient and cost-effective fluoride delivery system within orthodontics is also an important innovation to retain/strengthen tooth enamel and reduce sensitivity during and after treatment.”
