3M, St Paul, Minn, announced its exclusive North American license with uLab System’s treatment planning software for aligner therapy.

uLab Systems, a privately held digital dental company, based in Redwood City, Calif, has developed an automated treatment planning software to support in-office aligner treatment. The uLab software platform is designed to import 3D digital scans and allows orthodontic professionals to develop a treatment plan in as little as 10 minutes, according to 3M.

The partnership with uLab comes as 3M launched its Clarity Aligners on the eve of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) Annual Session in Washington, DC, on May 5 to 8, 2018.

“Adding uLab’s capability for allowing doctors to plan treatments in-office using 3M Clarity Aligners, will give orthodontists more control over cases,” says Sebastian Arana, president and general manager, 3M Oral Care. “They can set up their cases as they wish on their own through uLab’s streamlined experience, or choose to have 3M create the treatment plan.”

Customers who want 3M to create a treatment plan will submit cases through the 3M Oral Care portal, a web-based treatment management and ordering interface. uLab’s software will be fully integrated with 3M’s Oral Care portal, making it easier to upload files for 3M to produce and deliver the aligners.

“3M is committed to developing aesthetic and custom solutions that will delight orthodontists and their patients,” stated Arana. “Our goal is to make it easier for orthodontists to engage patients, provide effective treatments, and run a profitable practice.”

In addition to the exclusive license, 3M has made a strategic investment in uLab Systems Inc.

3M’s Oral Care portal and uLab software, as well as Clarity Aligners, will be on display at 3M’s booth at the AAO Annual Session.
