In this episode of In the Sterilization Room with Jackie, infection prevention and sterilization expert Jackie Dorst, RDH, BS, begins our multi-part series looking at what goes into the remodel of an older sterilization room.

Here, Jackie breaks down the four stages of a remodel, as well as the cost considerations, and where she starts her evaluation. Hint: It’s not cabinets and the equipment. A good sterilization remodel, according to Jackie, starts with a look at how and how many instruments and cassettes the practice is using. That data will determine everything else.

Jackie also talks about what it’s like to do a sterilization room remodel in the time of COVID-19 and the latest technology available for your sterilization room.

In upcoming episodes, Jackie will take a deep dive into the instruments you need and how they’re configured in the cassettes, as well as changing from dry heat sterilization to steam sterilization. OP
