In this episode of In the Sterilization Room with Jackie, we announce the winners of the inaugural Sparkle & Shine Scholarship to attend the upcoming virtual OSAP Boot Camp, taking place January 25 to 28, 2021. The scholarship was created by our contributor Jackie Dorst, RDH, BS, to encourage orthodontic team members to pursue training in infection control and prevention and to consider a potential career as an infection control and prevention consultant.
Joining us to make the announcement is Doug Depew, DDS, and Michelle Lee, who, along with Orthodontic Products Chief Editor Alison Werner, were part of the scholarship selection committee. Depew is a practicing orthodontist in the Atlanta suburbs and the founder and academic director of Trapezio, which provides formal, AAO-endorsed online training for orthodontic staff members. Lee is the executive director of OSAP—the Organization for Safety, Asepsis, and Prevention. The organization is dedicated to being the leading provider of infection prevention and control education, training, and credentialing that supports safe dental visits.
Over the course of the episode, Depew and Lee discuss why continuing education is so important to the orthodontic team in fostering a sense of professionalism and the educational resources both of their organizations offer to further staff members’ career development. OP
