Registration is now open for the 2023 OSAP Dental Infection Control Boot Camp, offering education on dental infection prevention and safety.

Registration is open for the 2023 OSAP Dental Infection Control Boot Camp which will take place from January 23 – 25, 2023 at the Crowne Plaza Atlanta Perimeter at Ravinia in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Organization for Safety, Asepsis, and Prevention is offering two formats – In-Person Plus and On-Demand Only.

There will also be an Antibiotic Stewardship Summit pre-course event on January 22, and a special Federal Service Session on January 26.

The boot camp is aimed at those new to dental infection prevention and safety and are seeking an introductory understanding. OSAP said it is also for prior participants who want to build on, apply, or enhance existing knowledge and those who are early in their career, making a career shift, or want a refresher.

Topics Include:

  • Principles of Infection Control
  • Standard and Transmission Based Precautions
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Policy & Program Development, Program Evaluation
  • Exposure Risk Determination & Postexposure Management
  • Sterilization and Disinfection of Patient Care Items
  • Dental Water Quality Assurance Program

The course curriculum is based on the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control in Dental Health-Care Settings – 2003, the 2016 Summary of Infection Prevention Practices in Dental Settings: Basic Expectations for Safe Care, the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (1910.1030), and the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (1910.2000).

Due to the continued COVID-19 pandemic, the curriculum will also cover the most up-to-date interim guidance and any related regulations. Participants gain an understanding of relevant infection control laws, regulations, guidelines, standards, and best practices. They will also get practical tips on how to implement them in their practice setting.
