The software update allows clinicians to treat varying age groups on a single platform and introduces flexible wear schedules.
Dentsply Sirona has expanded the treatment capabilities for its SureSmile aligners, enabling clinicians to treat malocclusions in both mixed and permanent dentition using a single product and software platform. The expanded capabilities are now available in the US and Canada.
Flexible Treatment and Wear Protocols
The update introduces flexible aligner wear protocols, allowing clinicians to adjust wear times between 1 and 2 weeks based on individual patient needs. According to the company, the ability to treat both mixed and permanent dentition using one software platform promotes integration into existing workflows while supporting treatment flexibility.
Early Intervention for Malocclusion
Malocclusion often begins to manifest during the mixed dentition stage when primary and permanent teeth coexist. Early treatment during this stage can help guide jaw growth, create space for erupting teeth, and reduce the severity of future corrective procedures.
By expanding SureSmile aligner applicability to this developmental stage, clinicians can intervene earlier without switching between multiple appliance systems.
“Orthodontic treatment is no longer just about correcting alignment—it’s about timing, prevention, and creating better outcomes earlier in a patient’s life,” says Jill Uhryniak, group vice president orthodontics at Dentsply Sirona, in a release. “With these expanded SureSmile capabilities, clinicians can intervene sooner, guide development more effectively, and deliver care that is not only more efficient, but more impactful for patients and their families.”
