Whip Mix Corp, Louisville, Ky, has introduced The GEM, a new home monitoring system for patients with sleep disturbed breathing. Ideal for dental professionals with a dental sleep medicine component in their practices, the GEM is a pulse oximeter that utilizes cloud technology for readings from the patient’s home that can then be transmitted to the doctor’s office. The GEM is designed to assess the functioning of the airway using SPO2 and variations in heart rate to help measure how well the airway functions during sleep. The oximeter then transmits the data to a Galaxy tablet for storage and processing.

The GEM can be upgraded to the GEM Pro with the addition of the BioPlux Amplifier. This option is for dental professionals who want to include bruxism measurements with the airway screening. In addition, the GEM Pro provides readings for body position and audio records of snoring.
