The Pipestone County Museum, in Pipestone, Minn, recently opened a new exhibit, “The Tooth, The Whole Tooth and Nothing but the Tooth: Dentistry in Pipestone County,” which features dental artifacts and Pipestone County dental history from the late 19th century to today.

According to Susan Hoskins, the museum’s director, the museum had many pieces of dental equipment—extraction instruments, tools, dentures, and artificial teeth—and had searched for a way to display them.

The exhibit travels through dentistry history, starting with the Egyptians, the Chinese, and the Greeks. Also included are histories of the toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, and dental floss.

Hoskins says the exhibit is sponsored by three dentists and an orthodontist.  It is expected to be on display for 2 years.
