Dr P. Emile Rossouw takes the helm as president, while Dr Jose A. Bosio begins an eight-year term on the board of directors.
The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) appointed P. Emile Rossouw, BChD, BChD-Hons, MChD, PhD, FRCD(C), as president for the 2026-2027 year and elected Jose A. Bosio, BDS, MS, to its board of directors. Both leadership updates follow the recent American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) Annual Session.
Rossouw Appointed President
Rossouw, who represents the Northeastern Society of Orthodontists, began his term on May 4, 2026. As president, he serves as chair of the ABO executive committee and acts as the liaison to professional organizations including the AAO, the World Federation of Orthodontists, and the Society of Educators.
Rossouw currently serves as chair of the division of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health at the University of Rochester Medical Center. His academic career spans over four decades, with previous leadership roles at the University of North Carolina, Baylor College of Dentistry, the University of Toronto, and the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa.
Joining Rossouw on the executive committee are Dr Anthony M Puntillo as president-elect and Dr Daniel J Rejman as secretary and treasurer. Dr Roberto Hernández-Orsini transitions to the role of immediate past president after completing his eight-year term.
Bosio Joins Board of Directors
Bosio was elected to the board of directors during the AAO House of Delegates meeting at the AAO Annual Session. Representing the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists, he will serve an eight-year term that will culminate in the position of ABO president for the 2033-2034 year.
Bosio is the division chief and postgraduate program director of orthodontics at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. He also serves as a guest lecturer at MedStar Hospital and Georgetown University. His prior academic appointments include positions at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine and the Marquette University School of Dentistry.
An ABO examiner since 2010, Bosio has also contributed as an item writer for the organization’s scenario-based clinical examination.
