deborah_lienThe Midwestern Society of Orthodontists (MSO) installed a number of new officers at its recent Annual Session, held September 12 to 13, 2014, in Chicago. Dr Deborah Lein (pictured), Rochester Minn, was named president, while Dr Ara Goshgarian, Lake Forest, Ill, was named president-elect and Dr Virginia Mennemeyer, Troy, Mo, secretary-treasurer. Dr Brent Larson, Minneapolis, will continue to serve as an officer as the MSO Trustee to the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) Board.

In completing his terms as the 2013-2014 MSO president, Dr John R. Crawford of Kenosha, Wis, will now serve the Board as immediate past president.

With Mennemeyer’s installation as secretary-treasurer, Dr Mark Dake of West Plains, Mo, will replace her as Missouri director on the MSO Board. Drs Spencer Pope (Illinois), David Gehring (Iowa), Conny Athanasopoulos (Manitoba, Canada), Kevin Denis (Minnesota), Kimberley Stafford (Nebraska), Alison Fallgatter (North Dakota), Ryan VanLaecken (South Dakota), and Scott Arbit (Wisconsin) will continue to serve their respective component organizations on the MSO Board as directors.

The MSO’s 2014 Earl E. Shepard Distinguished Service Award was presented at the MSO Annual Member Business Meeting to Dr Arnold J. Hill of St Paul, Minn. He is a past president of the MSO and served as the Graduate Education Orthodontic Director at Mayo for several years. The award was created to honor Dr Earl E. Shepard and recognizes orthodontists for outstanding service to orthodontics and their community.

The MSO hosted the Great Lakes Association of Orthodontists (GLAO) for a combined 2014 Annual Session. MSO represents more than 1,400 members in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Manitoba (Canada).

The MSO will hold its next Annual Session October 9 to 10, 2015, in Rochester, Minn.
