According to the Times of Malta, The University of Malta and King’s College London have signed an agreement creating a joint postgraduate degree in dentistry. After finishing their studies, candidates will be awarded a MSc in orthodontics jointly by the two universities.
The full-time course, which will be held both at the University of Malta and at King’s College London, will be offered this October and is 3 years long. According to the founders, the program will provide a sound academic basis for orthodontic practice, with academic and practical teaching that covers normal development; growth modification; fixed, functional, and retaining appliances and the biological principles of orthodontic tooth movement; as well as multidisciplinary treatment involving orthognathic surgery and restorative dentistry.
Students will also have the chance to participate in related research programmes, including laboratory materials investigations, clinical studies, and biological investigations. The study programme complies with the principles of Erasmus and supports the European Union directives on specialisation in orthodontics.
The aim is for this joint degree to provide the background for the development of other joint MSc degrees in different areas of dentistry.
