Bruce K.A. Dormanen, DDS, of WOW Orthodontics, Anoka, Minn, recently awarded college scholarships to high school students in the Anoka and Champlin, Minn, area who are pursuing a career in the field of dentistry.

The scholarships were available to students at five local high schools. Students applied for the scholarships directly at their schools, and recipients were selected and notified by the individual scholarship committees at each school.

"It is becoming more and more difficult for parents and students to afford a college education with the rising cost of tuition," said Dormanen in an announcement about the scholarships. "This is a great way to give back to the community. The field of dentistry has been very rewarding for both me and my staff, and we plan to continue our scholarship program in the future."

The 2009/2010 WOW Orthodontics scholarships were awarded to:

• Kelly Stellenberg from Anoka High School, who will attend Minnesota State University;
• Alysha Schmidt from Champlin Park High School, who will attend St. Benedict’s College;
• Alec Woldoch from Elk River High School, who will attend University of Minnesota;
• McKinzie Qualley from Big Lake High School, who will attend St. Cloud State University; and
• Alisha Mathieu from Princeton High School, who will attend Cambridge Community College.
