Dentsply Sirona, Charlotte, NC, announced the addition of 3D I-X Low Dose mode to its Orthophos SL 3D imaging system.
With the inclusion of 3D I-X, the Orthophos SL now features three settings: high definition (HD), standard dose (SD), and 3D I-X low dose mode. The HD mode provides images with maximum sharpness and is suitable for visualizing fine structures. The SD mode allows for optimized radiation dose covering common indications. When users need to clarify clinical issues for which a significantly reduced dose is sufficient, the 3D I-X function can be used. According to the company, this effect is achieved by using intelligent filters. The dense structures such as bones are retained for greater diagnostic reliability.
The 3D I-X mode is suitable for determining teeth position, performing sinus analysis, and checking implant positions. According to the company, this expands the application area of the 3D imaging fields to the fields of orthodontics and implantology, as well as to dentists who treat a large number of children and SICAT Air users who utilize 3D images to display the upper airways and treat obstructive sleep apnea.
Launched in 2015, the Orthophos SL includes a DCS (direct conversion sensor) and SL (sharp layer) technology.
All Orthophos SL 3D units can be upgraded to include the 3D I-X mode. Owners who are members of the Dentsply Sirona 3D Club can upgrade free of charge.
