Brain-Pad Inc, Conshohocken, Pa, has developed an upper and lower mouthguard for all athletes with or without braces. It is made of two thermoplastics. The highly shock-absorbent inner core has a higher melting point than the outer material, helping it maintain its shape during the "boil and bite" process. Only the outer material will soften and mold to the shape of the teeth and mouth. The outer material is soft enough to allow for new impressions as the teeth move. It can be remolded several times for a tighter fit when braces are removed.
