Satoshi Fujiwara of Otawara, Japan, has developed a one-bottle self-etching bonding composition.

According to the US Patent & Trademark Office, the one-bottle composite provides a strong bonding layer, independent of the skill of the practitioners, and it releases fluoride ions gradually into the oral cavity over an extended period of time.

The composite comprises a radical polymerizable monomer that has an acidic group in the molecule, a radical polymerizable monomer, a photopolymerization initiator, and a water-soluble organic solvent. It is substantially free of water.

Fujiwara was issued US Patent No. 7,129,281 on October 31.
