Tuncay, who is in private practice in Philadelphia and a professor at Temple University, assumes the role from Dr David Angus, who will continue serving as president emeritus.
The American Association of Orthodontists Foundation (AAOF) has appointed Orhan C. Tuncay, DMD, president of the board of directors. The AAOF is the charitable arm of the American Association of Orthodontists and provides support to orthodontic education programs and orthodontic research aimed at excellence in patient care.
In private practice in Philadelphia and professor in the department of orthodontics at Temple University’s Kornberg School of Dentistry, Tuncay assumes the role from David Angus, DMD. Angus will continue on the board as president emeritus, and as the director from NESO (Northeastern Society of Orthodontists).
“I wish to convey our gratitude to our President Emeritus Dr David Angus. He has been profoundly effective in steering the Foundation to meet the articles of the strategic plan,” said Tuncay in a statement. “Our novel initiatives of rapid assessment of evidence (RAE), residents’ retirement plan (RPP), Fred A. Garrett Resident Gift Program, Business of Orthodontics research funding and Annual Session business lectures were all accomplished under his watch.”
Tuncay, who represents the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists (MASO), served on the Planning and Awards Review Committee (PARC) for several years before joining the board in 2016.
During his term, he plans to focus on awareness and expansion of AAOF initiatives, while continuing to center the board’s mission on orthodontic education and research.
