The new, professional teledentistry platform, created by Philips and Toothpic, provides virtual patient connection to supplement in-office treatments.
Philips and Toothpic have collaborated to launch a professional teledentistry solution for practitioners and consumers. The platform is specially designed to provide dental professionals with a secure way to virtually meet their patients’ needs anytime, anywhere.
The dental professional-focused platform works with Philips Sonicare’s existing teledentistry service for patients powered by Toothpic. The platform is intended to help practices build direct patient engagement, acquisition and retention while improving office. efficiency, in-chair time and remote care.
By engaging with their patients virtually, dental practices can provide continuity of service with hygiene checks as well as assess other common oral health issues such as gum diseases, cavities, inflammation and more. Each participating practice will receive a unique QR code to share with patients, inviting them to connect securely via the app.
“This expanded collaboration with Toothpic is the product of our ongoing mission to help improve patients’ lives through meaningful innovation,” says Marci El-Deiry, who is senior marketing director for Philips Oral Healthcare. “In a time when virtual connection is exceedingly important, this solution will provide dental professionals with the tools to better reach their patients and build their practice in the short, mid, and long term.”
Within the platform, patients can flag concerns to their dental professional and are guided through a six-part photo-capturing process to achieve optimal placement and consistent capture of the same angle. The high-resolution imaging, which reportedly is unique to the platform, allows for optimized patient assessment through a series of images of the same anatomy over time. Patients will also be alerted if a photo appears blurry to ensure the dental professional receives the clearest possible snapshot.
The tool is designed to give dental professionals the flexibility and convenience to record and address patient cases in their own time based on their schedule. Capabilities to create a unique link for each patient’s case and a written assessment that the professional can upload directly into their software, help integrate the tool into existing practice management processes. The tool includes intuitive report creation and allows dental professionals to develop high quality templates to ensure fast and comprehensive assessments and treatment options to patients on a secure platform that is both HIPAA compliant and an ISO 9001 certified product.
Mark Moore, chief executive of Toothpic, adds: “Now more than ever, patients expect remote care across the entire healthcare continuum, and with this collaboration, dental offices can leverage teledentistry to enhance the care they provide and improve overall patient experience.”
