Dentists and dental specialists are invited to learn from national and international experts in interdisciplinary care at the AAO’s Interdisciplinary Conference. The conference, “Multiple Disciplines, One Focus,” will take place from February 9 to 11, 2007, in Indian Wells, Calif.

The meeting will feature nine teams of experts in periodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, restorative dentistry, and orthodontics who will share information regarding treatment of orthodontic patients with multidisciplinary problems.

“This will be a unique learning experience,” says Donald R. Joondeph, DDS, MS, AAO president and program co-chair. “There is much to be learned from our speakers, who are experts in the five dental disciplines. They will present up-to-date information in their respective areas to ultimately help us collectively and individually deliver the highest level of care to our patients.”

Discussion topics will include evidence-based treatment, interdisciplinary management of gingival discrepancies, and interdisciplinary management of vertical discrepancies. There will be also be an update in oral and maxillofacial radiology, a discussion of dentofacial esthetics, and a session on integrating interdisciplinary care in rural areas. Other sessions will explore maxillary posterior osteotomies to maximize a esthetic or restorative results; an update on surgery and the role of dental implants rehabilitation in orthodontic care, and the impact of digital technology on restorative dentistry and materials.
