Robert Pickron, DDS, is celebrating 42 years of patient care and community service this month. Based in Gwinnett County, Ga, and employing more than 100 staff members in 23 offices throughout north Georgia, Pickron Orthodontic Care is the largest privately owned orthodontic practice in the Southeast.

In addition to providing patient care for the past 4 decades, Pickron is a leader in charitable giving and volunteerism. In less than 4 years, Project Smile, a charitable giving program he developed, has contributed $235,000 to local charities.

In response to patient and parent angst over the replacement cost of lost and broken retainers, Pickron began asking patients to donate that cost directly to one of the designated charitable organizations in the Project Smile program. As an additional contribution, Pickron Orthodontic Care matches all contributions dollar-for-dollar.

The orthodontist’s anniversary is being celebrated by the Pickron team with six volunteer service events that span the summer and fall. Those events include working with the Homeless Pets Foundation, preparing meals for Project Open Hand, staffing the Covington Century Bike Ride to benefit Project Adventure Kids, and meal preparation for families at Rainbow Village.

"It’s important to us to give back in the communities where we treat patients," Pickron said. "Our doctors and staff live and work throughout the greater metro area, so that is where we strive to serve our patients and the community."
