The Academy of Orthodontic Assisting is returning to the American Academy of Orthodontists’ (AAO) annual session May 2-5 with hands-on classes for the orthodontic team.
   
Classes at the AAO annual session will include:

• "The Hands-on Class for New Orthodontic Assistants" is worth three CE credits and features 2 hours of intraoral procedures and 1 hour dedicated to taking  quality impressions.

• "Intraoral Procedures 4: Advanced Concepts in Orthodontics" is the most advanced class for experienced clinical teams to learn trends and techniques. This class, worth three CE credits, will focus on five topics including soft-tissue lasers, mini-implants/TADs, adjusting retainers, ligation of lingual appliances, bonded retainers, and surgical setup for in-office procedures.

• "Intraoral Procedures 3: Orthodontic Wire Bending Skills" is a 1-hour class worth one CE credit. Students will learn a variety of skills, including common bends in archwires and large-diameter wires such as those used for retainers and headgear.

• "Infection Control" is a class for all orthodontic team members and offers participants the opportunity to go through the proper steps in a typical sterilization center setup. The class will cover instrument preparation and sterilization from beginning to end, as well as OSHA guidelines. The class is worth one CE credit and will emphasize proper care and maintenance of orthodontic instruments.
